MEJFC COVID-19 Training Protocols


Hi Redlegs Team Managers and Coaches,

My name is Sal Costanzo, I have been designated the Club COVID officer for Redlegs to help the teams follow the COVID protocols. The health and safety of all the Mt Eliza Redlegs community is our priority, we need everyone to follow the COVID protocols.
Each team needs to have a designated COVID training officer to oversee your team. Team Mangers or Coach will need to take this role on ,if unable to take the role on please send through details of who will be taking on the role as they will need access to Team App.
All team COVID officers MUST complete the COVID online training.
I have attached the COVID ground rules. If all teams could please follow the entry and exit protocols. Signs will be displayed by the end of the week.
Each team has been allocated a COVID kit. Please pick up BEFORE your team starts training. Please collect from myself or a committee member from the club rooms
Information re football collection and Uniform shop will follow soon.
AFLSE has implemented a number of CovidSAFE protocols that we must adhere to. We have condensed the list and provided what is important for players and parents to be aware of below:


  1. You are not permitted on the field before training, so unfortunately no getting to training early for a warm up kick. You will force the stoppage of training if you do that. Similarly, we must be prepared to exit the complex as soon as our session is over so no earlier than 5 minutes before training.
  2. You must enter the field and leave the field by the designated point.
  3. We must strictly adhere to the maximum of 20 participants per group + a coach. Only COVID-19 trained helpers are allowed to assist.
  4. Groups of 20 must not mix with each other and must remain distant, with participants not allowed to swap between groups.
  5. Strictly no physical contact between players can occur (i.e. no tackling, no bumping, no marking contests).
  6. You must bring your own water bottle and never share one with another player
  7. Other than required medical equipment no other items are allowed i.e. bags
  8. Social distancing of 1.5m must be maintained at all times.
  9. No access to club rooms, changerooms or wet areas can occur, other than the public toilets.
  10. Footballs can be used for small outdoor group training, however only limited additional equipment is permitted to be used during training (i.e. field marking cones are permitted).
  11. We will be maintaining a register of all participants in attendance at each training session. Please see your COVID Safety Officer / Coach / Team Manager to get your name recorded each night.  They will be the one by the entry point.
  12. When conducting pair/group work, pairs must be consistent across each training night
  13. Footballs can be used, but must be wiped down after each session.
  14. Parents or caregivers for participants MUST remain outside the boundary line and observe social distancing.
  15. Parents are asked to adhere to social distancing if you are watching the session. Best to stay in cars.
  16. If a player is or has been unwell, you must notify the coach / team manager and NOT come to training.


Yes it is a lot of detail however we just need to get our heads around this. If we fail to accept and adhere to the protocols we simply put the season at jeopardy for the team, club and league. We have been informed that AFLSE may have random COVID Safe checks at any time looking for protocol briefs.
2020 helpers. All coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, trainers, helpers etc are to complete the COVID-19 Training.  The more trained, the easier it will be for the teams to train and subsequently play. You can find that training at the following link and only takes about 5 to 20 mins to complete.
Training at this point is ‘Opt In’ only. If you or your child have any concerns about the return to training protocols or if your child has an underlying health concern, please do not hesitate to call.
